CasemodoLogoIf you would like a customized case for the iPad you use as a portfolio or business presentation tool, check out the personalization options available for the Casemodo line of cases.

The 100-percent customizable tablet cases are the brainchild of PHDBookbinding.com, an online bindery for library-quality, hard-cover binding. Every Casemodo case meets the exacting quality standards honed from years of serving America’s leading academic libraries.

You can either design the case yourself or adapt one of the dozens of ready-made designs. Choose from a variety of colors, patterns or backgrounds for the exterior and interior. Then, add text or have logos or initials embossed or printed. Plus, you can choose coordinating protective metal corners or even add jewelry or ornaments.

“Casemodo’s redefinition of iPad and tablet cases can be expressed in three words: innovation, customization, and quality,” says Sam Odunsi of PHDBookbinding.com. “They make a great gift for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, graduations and holidays.”

Casemodo cases are available in canvas, faux leather or genuine leather. Resin coating for the canvas designs offers water resistance and protection from staining or fading.

Each case features a magnet lock for the cover and a device compartment that matches the cover design. The covers allow your device to stand on its edge and pivot in multiple angles for viewing convenience. The cover can also be folded to hold your iPad or tablet like a book. And for all iPads with the capability, Casemodo cases have smart covers that turn your iPad on and off when you open and close the cover.

While Casemodo cases can be designed to complement an executive suite or fashion wardrobe, Odsuni believes they also can be stand-alone statements of quality workmanship: “All Casemodo cases are individually handcrafted, using time-honored book binding standards.”

Use Premium Photo Books from Shutterfly as Portfolio Books

For a quick, easy way to publish an attractive portfolio book, check out Shutterfly’s new line of Premium photo books. The books are printed on satin-finish, double-thick professional-grade paper, with lay-flat pages that allow one photo to be seamlessly displayed over two full pages.  All Premium photo books are assembled by hand with an expertly bound genuine leather cover and stitched edges.

Shutterfly’s Premium books are available in three sizes: 8 x 8 inches (from $54.99), 8 x 11 inches (from $64.99), and 12 x 12 inches (from $94.99). Each book includes 20 pages, with additional pages priced at $1.00 for the two smaller sizes and $1.50 for the 12 x 12 size.

Shutterfly is promoting the Premium photo books as a deluxe way for brides to convert their wedding photos into lasting keepsakes. So Shutterfly has introduced a Custom Path book-design tool that makes it easy for non-designers to resposition and resize images and add captions or text blocks.

Most of the page backgrounds the Shutterfly offers support specific themes, such as weddings, babies, birthdays, children, travel, and storytelling. But Shutterfly also offers several portfolio-layout backgrounds for photographers and artists.

Personalize iPad Cases with Your Art, Designs, or Photos

The “Design Your Own” Powis iCase™ cover is a folio-style iPad case that can be personalized with customer-supplied photographs and artwork. The Powis iCase is manufactured in Berkeley, California by Powis, a 28-year veteran in the bookbindery business.

You can use the “Design Your Own” Powis iCase service to offer your own customers something new and different, or to create a personalized, studio-branded cover for your art, photography, or design portolio. Powis iCases can also be popular corporate gifts, with the option for companies to include their logos on the front cover or spine.

“My vision for our iPad case was always to offer the ability for customers to make their own case, using a special photo of a pet, family member, or favorite travel destination, or their own design,” said Kevin Parker, CEO of Powis Parker. “The iPad is a very personal device, and now the Powis iCase offers very personal covers.”

“I got my iPad last Christmas and researched like a madwoman trying to find the perfect combination of a case, cover, and stand,” says Shannon Vaughn, a Powis iCase customer. “I have since recommended the Powis iCase to quite a few people – some friends, as well as some random people at the airport who commented on my case,”

After uploading your favorite photo, artwork or graphics, the images can be faithfully reproduced on durable and easy-to-clean cloth. Or, you can choose from one of 70 handcrafted leathers or patterns. The Powis iCase can be further personalized with a name, inscription, favorite quote, or personal message on the inside cover.

In addition to personalization, the case offers protection and ergonomic functionality.

The built-in adjustable stand has more than nine viewing positions, so the iPad can be used for everything from typing while sitting on a park bench to watching an in-flight movie.

Other features include camera cutouts so photos can be taken without removing the iPad 2 from the case and a magnetic on/off switch. The case also includes a hidden wipe cloth, business card holder and hand strap.

All cases are constructed with 100% recycled board, and its handcrafted leather is 100% recycled cowhide fibers. Powis iCases are available for the iPad and iPad 2 for $79.95.

Blurb ProLine Improves Aesthetics of Photo and Design Books

DESIGNERS. PHOTOGRAPHERS. If the generic look and feel of many photo books have kept you from seriously considering producing a brand book, client presentation, or personal portfolio, check out the new ProLine of books from Blurb.com. The line was specifically created for creative professionals who to distinguish themselves not only through the content of their books, but also in their choice of materials.

With ProLine, you can customize your book with heavier, better-quality papers, more distinctive covers, and a choice of end sheets.

Fine Book Papers and End Sheets

The first two ProLine papers (Pearl Photo and Uncoated) are produced by Mohawk Fine Papers, Inc.

Blurb’s Pearl Photo paper is a rebranded version of Mohawk proPhoto paper. The 140 lb (190 gsm) semigloss paper is slightly heavier and glossier than the Premium Lustre paper used in other Blurb photo books. The Pearl Photo paper emulates the traditional photographic papers, enabling your books to resemble collections of custom photographic prints.

Blurb’s Uncoated paper is the popular Mohawk Superfine Ultrawhite in Eggshell finish. Blurb CEO Eileen Gittins noted that “Mohawk’s rich, heavy uncoated paper with its organic texture is hot in the design community right now.”

Blurb ProLine books can be created with Mohawk Superfine and proPhoto papers.

The ProLine end sheets are 80 lb. (115 gsm) papers that are currently available in five colors: charcoal grey, dove grey, warm grey, black, and white.

According to the Blurb, the two new ProLine papers from Mohawk are just the beginning. They plan to expand the creative range with additional professional-grade papers, more end-paper choices, and the ability to design books with more than 160 pages.

Linen Covers

The first new ProLine covers are linen hardcovers. You can choose from two colors: Oatmeal or Charcoal. Both are uncoated, giving them more of a natural feel. You can also choose to have your book produced with the Standard Black Linen cover.
